This statement alone should get Brad Brownell fired. I honestly can’t believe he admitted this in a press conference. Doesn’t that mean understanding half court basketball? Doesn’t that mean understanding how to make adjustments? Finally, this statement. at least that’s what the experts on this forum keep telling me. I don’t know, maybe play some half court offense? You’re supposed to be an X’s and O’s coach. Get the other team in foul trouble and go to the free-throw line. When a team has one of the highest free-throw shooting percentages in the country you play half court basketball and feed the ball inside. When the three isn’t falling a good coach adapts and adjusts and his 25-year-old point guard drive to the basket. There’s an expression, live by the three, die by the three. That’s why nearly every game we go 5 to 10 minutes without scoring a basket regardless of the competition. If this team doesn’t have those qualities by now, when are they? And whose responsibility is it to instill those qualities? I don’t know, maybe the head coach? “That's hard because you're going to have nights you don't shoot it.” Brad, we have a problem shooting the three consistently. This is a very experienced basketball team which is one of the reasons the expectations were so high for this year along with the state of the ACC. But your excuse is they were more athletic than we were? “ We have to be tougher and we have to be smarter and we just weren't quite either one tonight.” Brad, this is a team full of veterans. “We're not as athletic as some of the teams we play in this league.” Brad, Louisville only had three wins going into last night. Do you have any questions? But instead he made a bunch of lame excuses and truly exposed himself as a coach. It’s my job as head coach to get this team prepared and we were not prepared! This game was my fault. They would’ve said this game was an embarrassment, this game was an epic failure and the blame lies 100% on my shoulders. Dabo and Danny Ford, even Monte, would’ve made a very simple statement before taking questions. And frankly he exposed himself as a coach. It was nothing but a bunch of lame excuses. Brad Brownell‘s post game press conference was an embarrassment. Our own announcers have pointed that out during our games. Yet, even now, in really close games when we absolutely positively need to make every free-throw we come up short. Honestly, the only thing I can look at that has gotten better at Clemson over the past 10 to 12 years is a free-throw shooting. we still do things that we did in the past like 10 minutes without scoring a basket against bad teams. We look very poorly coached on the court. And we weren’t exactly blowing out bad teams even at home. And we lost games early in the season that should’ve been easy wins. For example, some of us were cautiously optimistic at the halfway point in the season, because we recognize that the ACC is water down and has been historically bad for a few years. But there has never ever been anything about Clemson basketball to make you think we have turned the corner. And in pretty much all of those situations there were a little things that you could point to and see progress was being made, even if it wasn’t showing up yet in the win/loss column. But those are rare, those are far and few between. That could happen, sometimes in your personal life if you’ve had a series of bad luck, or struggling with drugs or alcohol and get help, but when you’re dealing with something like a sports team and you’re not getting it done year after year after year it’s nuts to think that person is suddenly going to turn things around. I never understand people who think someone that has been struggling for years is suddenly going to turn things around. I remember people vociferously defending Larry Shyatt! Those people clearly were on drugs or drunk! There was no defending that clown! I remember people defending Jack as the baseball program continued to visibly decline and struggle, and then Monte. He reminds me of people that were fanatical at defending Tommy Bowden.
